The City of Assaen

Step into Assaen, the third map in the Harbor Cities theme—a complex fantasy harbor city map perfect for D&D campaigns and RPG worldbuilding rooted in conquest, debt, and urban power struggles.

Once a royal Preic capital, Assaen rose through trade and fortification to become a dominant force on the Sunset Coast. Transformed into a merchant republic, it flourished—only to fall into Callaern’s financial grip after a costly war. Officially part of the Callaeran Republic, Assaen remains fiercely independent in spirit.

Its streets reflect layers of occupation: Burbric temples, Preic ruins, Callaeran bureaucracy, and underworld dealings led by Ember’s Gang. Power is divided between the elected Magistrate, the merchant-dominated High Council, and the ever-influential House Belinger—a noble family whose silent control shapes the city’s fate.

Unlike polished Callaern, Assaen is pragmatic, militaristic, and unyielding. No ornate palaces, only stone and steel, purpose and pride. It is a city of tension—between old and new, rich and poor, ruler and ruled.

Assaen is perfect for stories of espionage, corruption, civil unrest, or the quiet resistance of a proud city refusing to bow.
