About Daniël's Maps
I’m Daniel and I’m a freelance illustrator based in The Netherlands with a passion for fantasy maps, sparked by the magnificent maps of Middle Earth. As a fantasy cartographer, I make maps for authors, publishers, game developers and producers always aiming to bring life to a world with my maps.
All of our fantasy maps are hand-drawn in Photoshop and partly in Procreate. Over the years, we have created some of our own brushes, but every tree you see on the map, every mountain, and every shadow has been placed on the map by hand.
To answer that, it’s important that you fill in the questions on our contact page. It’s a bit like asking, “How much does a car cost?” It depends on several things, including the size of the map. The larger your map is, the more detail it will contain, and the more time it will take us to create. A black-and-white map or a full-color map also makes a big difference in price.
What we can say is that we cannot create a hand-drawn map, with several hours of work behind it, for €100.
No! All of our maps are made by hand and without AI. Does that mean we never use AI anywhere within our business? No. We occasionally use it to check texts for mistakes, to sometimes make a start on research for maps or the lore that goes with them, and when we are lacking inspiration for what to post on social media, we may use AI as well.
But apart from that, you will never see a map from us that has been created using AI.
The maps themselves are not different, but what you get with them and the possibilities available are.
If you enjoy worldbuilding, it is definitely worth taking a look at our Patreon. On our webshop, you only buy the map itself, while on Patreon, each map also comes with extensive lore. Every map is part of a larger world, so all the maps and lore are connected!
We also have a Discord group on Patreon. There, members can make suggestions, and we regularly chat with each other.
As a Patreon member, you can also vote on which map theme we will work on. Every month, we work with a theme, such as harbors, mountain towns, deltas, and so on. As a Patreon member, you get to help decide which theme I will create the following month.
